Pete Sanson - Drums and Vocals

"You gotta play the music the chicks can dance to.  You get the girls out dancing, the guys will follow - Everybody's happy..."

- Pete Sanson on formula for success

It's impossible to talk about your all-time favorite bar bands in Greene County without Pete being in at least one of them.  You got Hazard, Horizon, and, of course, The Second Chance Band.  During their time, Second Chance broke every attendance record in every bar in the county - and for good reason - it was like going to the biggest party in town!  For Pete, that's exactly what a bar band is supposed to do and you can bet that he brings that same attitude to Steppin' Out.

Every band at some point has to figure out what they're going to bring to the stage.  You can make it as scientific a process as you care to in performance, presentation, and substance, but Pete breaks all that bullshit down to the simple formula quoted above.  You can have the best players playing the hardest songs but if no one is dancing it's only a matter of time before the crowd dries up.  That's why Pete's favorite songs to play are Steppin Out's biggest dance tunes like "Play That Funky Music" and "Burning Down The House".

So it makes sense that among Pete's favorite bands are Aerosmith and Van Halen - it's all about the fun.  That, and you have to throw in a little John Bonham because you KNOW he can play.

Pete works the crowd from behind the drums like nobody else but he does it off the stage too.  He loves to turn gigs into a social event; I've watched him do it for years.  For him, there's no separation between Steppin' Out and the audience - we're all friends.

It's true.
